Sign Up Sheet Event Planning with ThingToBring

February 23, 2015 · 1 Comment

Raise your hand if you are having a hard time concentrating on anything other than what to cook in a parking lot somewhere near a football field tomorrow! Oh, wait, let me put my hand down so I can type. I’m obsessed with college football and not surprisingly, grilling near college football stadiums (aka, tailgating). I’m the one who always puts together the menu and my friends always give me a hard time for not letting them know how to contribute to the party. Well, this season I am using ThingToBring.com to create my menu as a sign up sheet, so people know what they can bring to the party. The iPhone app lets me track who is bringing what easily as well, from wherever I am at the time (like the grocery store, picking up items for tailgating!).

Here’s what my tailgating party sign up sheet looks like for this weekend. We are doing a chicken taco bar so people can make their own taco whenever they get there:

So far, it seems to be eliminating the “I’ll just bring a bag of chips” syndrome we usually face.  You see, most friends are going to bring something anyway, no one wants to show up empty handed when someone else is cooking for them.  With ThingToBring, I can create a list of suggestions or “Things” people can bring.  They get an email saying they “Have a Thing To Bring” to my event.  Once they click on the link, they can sign up for whatever is still available to bring to the party.  I’m digging this whole concept so far and will use it again for any future cookout, potluck and more tailgates!

Man cannot live by pork chop alone. Every now and then you must sauce it up a bit. This smokey green sauce blends great with a pork chop. The combination of roasted poblano peppers, tomatillos and garlic make a savory sauce. This might also make a great base for a roasted corn and black bean salsa, which I might have to try some day soon. I'll let you know when I do. It's best to cook this recipe on a charcoal grill, so that the smokey flavor gets infused into the peppers and tomatillos and a side of mushrooms
